Mission E-1: Front-Door Key is the first mission for the Treacherous Mansion. The last mansion looms before Luigi, and somewhere within lies the last Dark Moon Fragment, and the culprit behind all of this. First things first - To open the front-door! What could go wrong?

Walkthrough

Veranda

You many want to explore the front gate when Luigi gets pixelated in, because you won't be returning any time soon. Start heading towards the mansion by carefully crossing the narrow pathways leading up towards the front door. The last narrow path will break off, effectively cutting you off from the starting point.

When trying to open the front door, who of all ghosts should thwart your plans? The Polterpup, of course. As the two gargoyle statues recede to open up a path across the Veranda, take a moment to peek in the window on the right for some truly terrifying stuff. Then head left across the Veranda on the trail of the Polterpup. Following his trail, he'll bound down the stairs and inside the catacombs through a destroyed door. To give chase, reveal a chain at the top of the well to follow him to the depths of the mansion.

Money Spots: Before leaving the starting area, be sure to flash every gargoyle for some quick money. There is one hidden one on the right side that will spit even more money out. On the far left of the upper part of the veranda is a hidden chest full of money. The Doghouse below is filled with bills, and to the left is a fake wall leading around the stairs to an area with a few graves and candles. Blowing out the candles will release a Goldie that can be captured for even more money.

Bottom of the well

Grab the few coins lying around and make your way right to the Guard Tunnel where the Polterpup is waiting.

Money Spots: Suck up the fake wall in the well for some money, and don't forget to flash the golden spider along the path to the Guard Tunnel.

Guard Tunnel

The Polterpup moves on north, of course. Since Luigi can't follow, go right towards the Cliffside, but first deal with the several Empowered Greenies and the Empowered Slammer that ambush Luigi.

Cliffside

The far side of the cliffside isn't accessible, instead use the Poltergust on the wheel to open the gate and head inside.

Ceremonial Chamber

Head to the main area of the chamber, and note the self replenishing carpet, this will become very useful in a short moment. Grab the ball of web in the corner and light it with the broken lantern by the entrance. Light all the fuses connected to the torches to bring up a suit of armor on a throne with a mean looking axe...right as another suit of armor comes forth to attack! These suits of armor may look imposing, but like the mummies there's more than meets the eye. Lure the suits of armor to strike on the carpet, then pull the carpet up to trip them, causing an Empowered Greenie to burst forth, who can be then captured normally. Repeat this for the second suit of armor and clear the area, then use the throne to go down a level.

Money Spot: Head behind the area the first suit of armor was to find a chest of money.

Haunted Catacombs

There is no map here, so rely only on the Darklight to follow the Polterpups tracks to the true path onwards. Each corridor has three areas that Luigi can take, left or right. First head to the far end of the corridor and head right. Head right once more, then all the way to the north side of the corridor and right again. Finally head to the middle of the corridor and right through the door and into the Underground Lab

Money Spot: In the second corridor you may notice a fake picture of a coffin, hiding a real coffin behind a set of bars. In the next corridor, head all the way up and then left to double back to the coffin. Open the coffin and travel to another pocket dimension. To collect all the coins before time runs out, you have to make sure your path doesn't stay in front for the suits of armor for too long. To do that, run up the left side and down the right side. Several gold bars will be your reward

Underground Lab

Some Empowered Greenies will be experimenting with a suit of armor. Take off their goggles to capture them, but watch for the Empowered Sneaker that joins in on the fun. Defeat them all to leave through the door on the right.

Boo - Boolldog - Use the Poltergust on the wheel in the Underground Lab that the two Greenies were playing with to zap the suit of armor, causing a Boo to emerge.

Diamond 1: Using the electricity wheel will zap the Suit of armor, causing the helmet to fall off. You can then use it to smash the jars, one of which contains a gem.

Haunted Catacombs

Continue following the Polterpups tracks down the corridor and to the left, then through the door.

Diamond 2: Before following the Polterpups tracks in the Haunted Catacombs, inspect the suit of armor with the sword. The suit will 'point' with the sword to the next corridor. Follow the trail via the suits of armor and the area they point to with their swords. The last area has no suit of armor, so head north to reveal one with the darklight, then follow his direction right to a portrait of a ball of web and a fire. Bring the flaming ball back to where a wall of webs were to light it up, revealing a gem.

Diamond 3: In the Haunted Catacombs, follow the pointing suits of armor until you arrive at the corridor with the web wall holding Diamond 2, then move all the way back to the other side of the corridor to find a door to the opposite side of the Cliffside, where a gem will be waiting on a vine..

Dungeon Cells

Follow the Polterpup down the stairs, but be sure to check the barrels for an Empowered Hider waiting for you. After he is gone, inspect the three cells. The last cell has fake bars that can be sucked up. It also has a bomb portrait. Pull the chain to move the portrait to the middle locked cell, and reveal the bomb to blow a hole connecting it to the first cell. Travel into the second cell and inspect the furniture to bring the Polterpup out of hiding, and finish him off for good! Reclaim the key and finish the mission.
