Why Me? - Chapter 26 - Direshadow (2024)

Chapter Text

Alastor woke up to the day of his broadcast to heaven. As it turns out in his recovery time, Charlie had gotten the Roo fragment from Asmodeus. It has added another boney branch line wing to her. Again, she seems perfectly fine and normal. For some reason it was unsettling.

However he has a broadcast to do. So he gets his coffee, a proper breakfast, the king of hell actually manifested today's breakfast.

Everyone was happy for the red head.

As for Vox? He was alive and currently dealing with withdrawals from Val. He does put the drones on the hotel because he has some realizations, not any he likes or can really deal with but the fact was Val had drugged him. The moths sh*t eyesight didn't let him hypnotize him and it was a moot point.

The deer was feeling everything. Joy, anxiety, a sense of great accomplishment, severe focus and so many other things. This was nearly a century in the making and he would contact his mother. He touches his own throat. "Will she recognize me? Remember me?" He looks to the record he was ready to play. It wasn't jazz. No, it was a soft practically no name song and his mother had put words to. Record from the penny bin. He had re-recorded it and it was with him singing her words. Just in case his voice got stuck he knew how to push regular audio.

He checks the time and then, turns on the broad cast, throw ming everything he has into it. Going through hell, easy enough. Going through Earth, at this stage, easy as well and then, heaven. He stands before his control board and grabs a wire that transitions the hellish radio signals to go up and into the cables that move it to the angelic steel. Frequencies rapidly shifting as he works to break through. Static in his eyes, his nose was bleeding but he does not care. Flipping the switch to play the song. His ears perked for anything that felt like their old radio. A whiff of the soul food. A whisper of his name.

He searches and searches as he lets his signal spread through heaven and then he hears a gasp. His antlered radio here in the tower gets an ear pointed to it. He hears her voice, she is singing with the record. He broadcasts it through hell as of it will be the balm on their souls as well. The song chokes off.

"Alastor?" Hell is cut from the rest of it.

"Mother... Can you hear me? Yes it's Alastor... I... I finally can hear you too."

"Baby where are you? When can I see you?" He can hear her sobbing.

"I'm... well I'm working on that. I'm in hell, deservedly so. No fault if your own. I'm a radio host down here as well. I work also with a hotel trying to rehabilitate sinners. I give them a little piece of heaven and home whenever I cook for them. I've missed you so much. I love you. Hah, you wouldn't believe it here. Would you believe I've been teaching the devil himself how to cook?" He was rambling now.

"My boy. You've always been a sweetheart. You do what you need to do, and I will wait right here for you. So I know your form probably changed, what do you look like now?"

His nose was bleeding more. "Well, I'm 7' tall, dapper if I do say so myself. Red and black bob with an undercut. My hair is a mess most days in all honesty but antlers don't really allow for a head covering. I have for some odd reason long haired deer ears, red claws and hooves, gray skin, red on red eyes. Yellow teeth. I always kept smiling. I made my promise.

"Did you smile for 90 years... For me? Sweety you do not need to do that. Please you should be allowed to feel whatever you want. There is no shame in that, never has been."

"I can't keep the signal for just you and I much longer but I know the frequency now... I will figure this out until I can see you again."

"You can do anything you put your mind to. I love you."

"I love you too momma." Alastor couldn't even see anymore after the connection faded. The stitches faded away and he held himself, allowing himself to let his face screw up, tears well up and just cry.

He had recorded the whole thing and that frequency was etched into his soul.

Hell got their proof and after recovering a bit, he came down, tired but accomplished. No one has ever seen him without a smile and he fell to the ground in suddenly shaky legs.

"Ya did it smiles!" Cheers Angel. He pets Alastor on the head but finds blood when he lifts his hand.

"My antlers are falling off. I strained them too much." Alastor said this quietly. They all remembered that the radio demons antlers also worked as a to go radio tower.

His eyes were already trying to close. He shakes his head before heading to his room. He barely made it in the threshold before he passed out asleep. No smile on his face now.
